Marine Life Identification Perth WA

Shore Diving

Plants - Weeds
&
Algaes

In this section you will find a collection of Plants, Weeds & Algaes that you are likely to come across during your shore dives along the Perth coastline.

Not all weed and algae looking specimens you will encounter are actually plants, this is due to cell structure, the way it feeds, grows and reproduces etc etc.  That all said I have grouped them all here because unless you are a marine biologist (apologies to any novice scuba diving marine biologists who stumble onto this site) and if you are anything like me, if it looks plant like, you are going to presume it is a plant.

I have however grouped them into their colour schemes, but again just because it looks green, it does not mean that it is in fact part of the green family.......... confused ?..... I was, however just check out the other colour sections and hopefully it is covered there.

I have also included a list of "Not Plants" I know it sounds bizarre but sometimes you can look at a wonderful flowery looking creature during your dive, presume its a plant, come to this section and be totally befuddled that its not here, then most probably mutter some derogatory statement about how stupid this is and think I need some kind of a slap (and if you know me, you may already be thinking this anyway... but that's another story)
.

The chances are that, you have most probably seen these "Not Plants" on the previous page but, jumped straight into this section. And when you see the list and specimens of "Not Plants", you may be quite suprised how extensive it is, as marine life is so diverse, adaptable, very bizarre but always extremely beautiful.
